Privacy Policy
§ 01Introduction
Welcome to Faint. We built this specialty coffee tasting journal with a strict, foundational philosophy: Your vault, always private. Local-first storage. No cloud. No sign-up.
To be completely transparent, we have drawn a crystal-clear line between your "User Content" (which belongs to you and never leaves your device) and "App Telemetry" (anonymous technical data required to keep the app running and manage subscriptions). App store platforms require developers to disclose any data collected via third-party SDKs, and this policy explains exactly how Faint handles both.
§ 02Your User Content (100% Local)
Your personal coffee journal is entirely yours.
- Whether you dial in notes manually or use the AI scanner, all tasting cards, photos, flavor notes, ratings, and journal entries are stored strictly locally using on-device storage.
- We do not have a central database.
- We do not require you to create an account or sign up.
- We have absolutely no access to your personal coffee journal data.
Social Sharing & Exports: When you export a beautifully designed card for your feed, Faint utilizes your device's native sharing sheet. We do not track, intercept, or log where you export your cards or who you choose to share them with.
§ 03Third-Party Infrastructure, AI & Telemetry
While your coffee data never leaves your device, Faint relies on a few trusted third-party services to process your subscriptions, parse card images, render maps, and catch app crashes. The app itself sends only anonymous infrastructure data. The one exception is a purchase made on faint.coffee: that is a transaction on our website, not in the app, and the email address and billing country you type into that checkout go to the parties named below because you give them directly. In detail:
- OpenRouter (AI Scanner): When you use the AI scanner, the image of your roaster card — along with the text your phone read from it — is securely transmitted to our AI provider (OpenRouter) solely to extract the tasting notes and coffee details. We do not store these images on Faint servers, they are processed in real-time, and they are not linked to any personal identity.
- RevenueCat (Subscriptions): We use RevenueCat to manage "Faint Pro" subscriptions. For purchases made in the App Store or Google Play, RevenueCat receives an anonymous, randomly generated ID alongside the store's purchase receipt to validate your subscription; it does not collect or store your credit card number, name, or billing address. For purchases made on faint.coffee, the sale is made by Paddle, our reseller and merchant of record: Paddle and RevenueCat receive the email address and billing country you enter at checkout — used for your receipt, tax, the one-time link that activates Pro in the app, and your customer portal — and Paddle processes your payment under its own privacy policy. Neither we nor RevenueCat see or store your card number.
- Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics (App Health): We use Firebase strictly to monitor app health, catch bugs, and view basic usage metrics (such as your device model, OS version, and crash logs). Important Note: We have explicitly removed the Advertising ID (AD_ID) permission from Faint. We do not track you across other apps, and we do not use this telemetry data for advertising or demographic profiling. Firebase also issues each installation an anonymous, randomly generated ID, which we use only to count your free scans and confirm a Pro subscription; it is not tied to your name, email, or any account.
- Google Maps SDK (Mapping Origins): Faint uses Google Maps purely to render the map tiles that allow you to pin the geographic origin of your coffee beans. We do not track, collect, or store your live physical GPS location.
§ 04Your Privacy Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
Depending on your location, regulations like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) grant you specific rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access and delete your information.
Because Faint does not collect, store, or transmit your Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or your coffee journal data to our servers, your right to deletion is fully in your own hands. You can permanently delete all your user data at any time by simply uninstalling the Faint app from your device.
To manage or cancel a Faint Pro subscription bought in a store, or the payment data associated with it, use the standard subscription management settings of your device's platform (Apple App Store or Google Play). A subscription bought on faint.coffee is managed — cancellation, card changes and receipts included — through Paddle's customer portal, linked from your receipt email.
§ 05Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our app or legal requirements. If we make significant changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
